Mother’s Day Special: Beauty Lessons passed from Mom

Monday, May 8, 2017 Miami, FL 33132, USA

Presented by Ulta Beauty. All opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting the brands that keep Nany’s Klozet going.

If you didn’t meet her in my Mother’s Day 2016 post, I want to introduce you to MY MOM- the most gorgeous woman ever…inside and out! I’m everything I am because of herAnd I’m so excited to partner with Ulta Beauty to share some beauty lessons that were passed from “mi mami” and some that I passed to her after becoming a blogger.

I'm not going to lie; when I was little, we probably fought every other day. The older I get, the more I understand her and the more I want to be half the woman she is, half the wife, half the mother, half the friend she is.

She is the youngest of nine kids - with 5 older sisters. I can’t imagine all the fights that happened. Who took whose dress? Who finished up the lotion? (Because apparently all of them would go to sleep with moisturizer from forehead to toes). My grandmother wasn’t the biggest beauty junkie. I don’t blame her - imagine being a single mother with nine kids in Venezuela.-But she did have a few beauty rules. Sadly, my abuelita Luisa passed away when I was 11. But there are a few things I will never forget about her, like how she had the softest hands, with a pretty light mani. Or how she would always put on lipstick before heading out- light pink for every day, bright red for special occasions. She would even say that she would prefer to go out naked than without her lip color.

These things were definitely passed down to my mother; she always has hand lotion and some sort of lippie.  My mom also taught me to religiously take off my makeup - no matter the time and place. She has amazing skin but she says she started “too late” since she had her first facial at age 30 and wouldn’t moisturize. “Imagine if I would have taken good care of my skin since my teenage years”- she says to me frequently. And those became my must-haves; in my nightstand I always have some sort of makeup remover towelette, like the Neutrogena Cleansing Towelettes, and facial moisturizer.

When I became a blogger, I became obsessed with learning new beauty techniques- this lead me to doing a professional makeup workshop a few years ago. That’s when the tables turned. Now my mom loves asking me beauty advice and finding out about my current favorite products (I joke that I keep her young, but hey I think I really do! haha).

When we are together, she pretends like she doesn’t know how to do her makeup so I can spoil her. I know how much she loves to be pampered so I thought it would be perfect to do her makeup for today’s post- I used the Ulta Be Beautiful Color Essentials Collection (and it’s $19.99, a perfect gift). It includes 24 eyeshadows, a cheek palette, a dewy makeup setting spray, brushes, eyeliners, lip creams and lip glosses!!

Her latest beauty obsession is eyebrows (well, whose isn’t!?). She always struggles with what product to wear, so I decided to give her the best of the best, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Bold Brow Kit. I gave her a mini tutorial on how to fill her eyebrows naturally with the Mini Duo Brush and Powder, and then set them with the Clear Brow Gel.

And because lotion and lippies are her all-time must haves, I wanted to gift them to her for Mother’s Day.

- I got her the Travel Size Hand Food from Soap & Glory;  that way she can carry it in her bag. I love this one because it’s not greasy. It’s extremely moisturizing because of the shea butter, academia oil, and marshmallow.
- She recently became obsessed with matte lipsticks that last all day. I’ve been using the Smashbox Always On liquid lipsticks for a while and they are my absolute favorite. I have a feeling she is going to love them too. I got her the “Babe Alert”
shade, a nude rose that’s perfect for the everyday…and look how pretty it looks on her!

We know “la abuela Luisa” would be proud. Now it’s time to continue the Mother’s Day pampering with a brunch.

Isn’t she a beauty?

How are you going to pamper your mom this Mother’s Day?
