SNAKE PRINT boots for FALL 2019

Wednesday, October 23, 2019

This post is sponsored by Zappos. All opinions are my own.

In Miami, we wish for Fall temperatures basically all year. We aren't so lucky though, so we have to fake it a little bit (and fortunately, everyone fakes it at home too with a 60 degree A/C!).

So here are two looks with these amazing Steve Madden boots I got at Zappos. The one with the black dress and the denim jacket is more of a transitional look, perfect for Miami. But I know I also have readers that are experiencing temperatures drop right now.

Snake print makes big statement but it is also super versatile. I love how it looks with denim and leather. You can dress them up or down. Every time I wear these boots I get tons of compliments- I mean they are gorgeous!

I've loved Steve Madden shoes since I moved to the U.S; and now I can browse Zappos and find such a great range of Steve Madden styles. Plus I can shop in the comfort of my home, with fast and free shipping, and a 365 return policy.

HALLOWEEN IDEAS: Family costume - NEMO, Darla and Dentist

Tuesday, October 22, 2019

This costume was so fun, and people really loved it last year on my IG. I guess NEMO is such a cute movie that it really resonates with so many people.

My son had to be Nemo, of course. I went for Darla and my husband was the dentist.

OUTFIT/COSTUME DETAILS:
My skirt was from Target, and it also works for Cher in Clueless.
The purple sweater is an XL in kid's size. If you can't find a piece, check the junior department!!
I did the braces by twisting aluminum fold, it took me less than 5 minutes.
I could have gotten a redhead wig but the two little ponytails with my brown hair work too.
Here's the link to Nico's Nemo costume, and to my husband's scrubs.

HOPE YOU LIKED IT!

HALLOWEEN IDEAS with BABY: Cruella de Vil + Puppy

Monday, October 14, 2019

I've always loved Halloween. My birthday is a few days before Halloween and it feels like the perfect excuse to make my friends dress up at my parties.

However, since becoming a mom (and since I enjoy dressing up so much), I started thinking about all the amazing costumes I wanted to do with my little one. Since I have this blog, I have the perfect excuse to dress up to give you all tons of ideas.

This costume is from last year but I never shared them here.  Looking for inspiration, I found tons of mommy + baby costumes with Disney Princesses and their pet (aka Little Mermaid and flounder,  Jasmine + the tiger, etc). However, I love the dark side of Halloween- so I thought it would be way more fun to dress up as a villain!! And I WAS RIGHT! Cruella was one of my favorites to do last year; the perfect mix of evil and fashion!

I'm also trying to make sure my costumes are made with pieces I already own, or will rewear again. I'm trying to stay away from store costume, at least for me.

ALL YOU NEED
Fashion-wise:
- A little black dress. You can play around with the style you feel the most glamorous in.
- A faux-fur coat (so easy to get at thrift stores).
- Red heels (I ended up with black heels, loved them too).
- Red gloves

Beauty-wise:
- Red lipstick
- Vibrant green eyeshadow and strong eyebrows.
- At this point I had long hair so I did a faux-bob hairstyle and I used white hair spray to get that classic Cruella look.

It was so much fun!!

Home Decor: OUR LIVING ROOM REVEAL

Friday, October 11, 2019

So, we moved and decorating the new apartment has been so much fun.

Check out these previous posts:
- WE MOVED
- Nico's new nursery.
- Nico's awesome library.

I love HOME DECOR.
I love Pinterest.
I love pretending I'm an interior designer.

However, I am not. So for this living room to be as perfect as I want it to be.  I decided to use a website called Havenly (this is not sponsored, but there is a mini review).

You work with a professional interior designer to create your dream space. I had to photograph the room, take measurements, send pictures of the furniture we had, etc.  I also did an extensive quiz so they could figure out my style and the right designer for me.

The process is basically 3 steps after you send all the above.
#1 You get 3 mood boards and rate what you love or hate of each one.
#2 You get a mock-up of the space, make all the changes.
#3 Get the final 3d version
#4 SHOP.

The pieces my designer picked for me were a little too expensive. I took what she designed for me, looked at the measurements and found pieces that worked for my budget. I guess next time I should make clear that "the cheaper the better!". Even though, I did invest in a few key pieces.

Let's start!
You can use my referral link, and get $50 off a Full design package or $20 off a Mini design package:

#4 A COMPRAR.

HOW TO START FEELING BETTER AFTER A MISCARRIAGE

Wednesday, October 9, 2019

I picked this photo because it truly represents how grateful I feel for having a second chance and my rainbow baby in my hands.
Rainbow baby: the baby after a miscarriage that brights hope and light after the dark storm.

Over a year ago, I shared my miscarriage experience.

I shared it for myself.
I needed to open up with all of you.
I wanted to normalize this topic.
I wanted to feel less alone.

What I didn't know was how many women would write me- some even read it before going through a miscarriage and then went back to re-read it when it unfortunately happened to them too.  It was one of the hardest post I've written, and you can tell it comes from the heart.

Then the questions started to arrive:
"how did you start to feel better?"
"when did you know you were ready to try again?"
" weren't you terrified during your pregnancy with Nico?"

I don't have an absolute truth. Like I always say, I'm sharing my experience with hopes that you can take something and make it work for you.

I'm not going to lie here. I felt very lonely. I don't think Gabe understood why I felt so sad. Apparently we, women, become moms the moment we find out we are pregnant. Men become dads when they see their child for the first time.

I started talking to other moms that went through the same thing, and I didn't feel like a freak. I started realizing that what I was feeling was absolutely normal- and whatever YOU are feeling is normal too. I was upset, I would blame myself, I would envy other healthy pregnancies around me, I was sad, I was disappointed, I felt like the future I imagined was gone.

It was hard for me to admit this since I never got to see, feel, or touch this baby. It felt like I woke up from a nightmare and I was the only one who lived it. And many people made me feel like it wasn't real either: "oh, but it wasn't a baby, it was just the size of a bean".  But guess what? It was real FOR ME and all those feelings were as real as they can be. And you have the right to grief your baby for as long as you need to.

Cry if you need to cry.
Talk about it if you want to.
Sleep for days if you want to.
Go to parties or see your friends, if that's what you need.

But whatever you do, don't blame yourself and stop looking for an answer or a reason. I analyzed everything I ate, everything I did, if I worked out,  if maybe I drank too much wine before knowing I was pregnant, if it was stress ( since my husband broke his leg two weeks before I miscarried), etc.  When I finally accepted that there was nothing I could have done, that it wasn't my fault...that's when I started to feel better.

Then I did two things that truly helped me "move on".

1) I transferred to a hidden folder in my computer all of the pics I had that reminded me of her ( I don't know the gender but it gave me peace of mind to imagined "her")- maybe screenshots of names, pictures of baby nurseries, or even clothing. ** At the moment I had not bought anything, I would've put that in a box or given it away*. Then I took the only sonogram I had and I put it inside an envelope. Then I wrote a good-bye letter.

It's been over a year and a half since I wrote that letter but I'm crying as I remember it.  I thanked her for being part of my life for 12 weeks.  I thanked her for making my husband and me realize how much we wanted her.  I thanked her for making me so happy even if it was just for a little bit. Then I asked her to be our little angel and I promised her I would never forget her. And I signed it as MAMA- which was the hardest thing to do.

Then I sealed that enveloped and saved it in a box of personal letters/cards. I have not opened it since.

2) The second thing was to make her TANGIBLE. Since, again, I never got to see her, I wanted her presence to be real somehow. I chose a tattoo for this, but it can be a necklace, a drawing...anything that has a special meaning to you.

I got a "?" (a question mark). For me it meant not knowing how my life would have been, not knowing the answers to why things happen, to the "what ifs" in life.

Three months later we started to try again, and six months after the miscarriage I was pregnant with Nico- and yes, I was terrified every single step of the pregnancy.

Even though I will never know the reason,  I feel very grateful that  I did get my rainbow baby. I love him more than anything in the whole world!

At times, when I think of her, I do feel guilty because having her would have meant not having Nico in my life.  She would have been two years old this month. I just know she made me a better person and a better mom- and that she will always be a part of me.

"¿Cuándo y cómo te empezaste a sentir mejor?"

Tienes derecho a tener tu duelo a tu manera.

All about MY TATTOOS

Monday, October 7, 2019

I always get questions about my tattoos and what they mean. And honestly, I love asking people what their tattoos mean, it's like getting to know a piece of that person and how something made it to their skin permanently.

I think I always wanted tattoos. My brother got his first tattoo when I was around 4-5 years old and for me it has always been normal. But it wasn't normal in my home, my brothers got in a lot of trouble for getting them. Let's just say my parents weren't too happy about them- but more on that later.

For all that, I didn't get my first tattoo until I was married and financially independent. I really wanted   for it to be my decision and not an impulse tattoo as a teenager.

As of today, oct 7th 2019, I have 6 tattoos- each one representing something really important in my life.

______________________________

DREAM tattoo.

My first tattoo was a DREAM in cursive in the right side of my ribcage. I got it in 2014 and it basically represents my career, going after my dreams, dreaming and working towards a goal.  In 2014, the blog started to become an actual job and it was a reminder that everything was possible.
______________________________

VIII tattoo.

I have a number 8 in Roman numerals on my left wrist. I love numbers and this number has brought me a lot of luck, it's that number that I see everywhere. I was born in 88', on 25-10 (that adds up to 8). I got it on August 8th, 2015 (so 8,8, 2+5+1=8), and our 8th year, 8 month anniversary. It sounds crazy, I know.

Oh and I did it in Roman numerals instead of a regular 8 because everyone would think that it would be an infinity symbol- and no no.

______________________________

ELEPHANT tattoo

Like I mentioned before, tattoos were a bit tabu in my house. Over the years, I tried to help my parents be more open minded about them; how they didn't mean you were taking drugs and that it didn't mean you were a bad person. That they are just a way to decorate your body.

We started thinking about getting an elephant tattoo- ALL of us. My dad didn't get it, but my mom did. And it was amazing. We got it with her in her 60th birthday (so 2016). She is such a cool mom!

______________________________

QUESTION MARK tattoo.

In March 2017, I went through a miscarriage. It was truly one of the hardest moments in my life. You can read about my experience HERE since I don't want to deviate the topic. But everyone kept telling me "everything happens for a reason"; and I disagree. I think some things in life just leave us with a big question mark, we'll never know why they happened but we have to accept them and move on.

______________________________

CONSTELLATION tattoo.

In May 2018, my son was born...my beautiful rainbow baby. In November 2018, I got his astrological sign (Taurus), and a little moon with a hidden N (for Nico) that shows how the moon was the day he was born. For me it's like a timestamp of the exact moment my life just got 100x better.
______________________________

PUPPY tattoo

Wow, I truly have gotten one tattoo per year (don't worry mom, I think I'll stop at 8 tattoos...again, the lucky number!). We got Chiki, our dog, in 2008. He has been the best company, he has been with me through thick and thin, through all my college tests, my grad school thesis, pregnancy, and he is the best big brother to Nico. As he is getting older, he was diagnosed with a respiratory condition. I am terrified of how much time left he has with us, but I know he will be with me forever.

______________________________

And that's it! Which one is your favorite? Do you have any tattoos?
