And Chicago said Good-Bye to us with a gorgeous snow fall. This was just right before heading to the airport, but we had to stop (right in front of the hotel) and take pictures. I didn't see snow until I was 15...and every time I see it, it's just so magical.
The only downside to these pictures was that, since we were about to leave, I wasn't wearing any thermal underwear or tons of layers. I don't think you can tell how cold I was from these pics haha.

Chicago nos despidió con una nevada hermosisima. Estas fotos fueron justo antes de irnos al aeropuerto, pero teníamos que aprovechar y tomar unas fotitos en la nieva. Como les he contado, la primera vez que vi la nieve fue a mis 15 años. Y sigue siendo muy mágico cada vez que la veo.
Les cuento que como fue antes de salir del aeropuerto, solo tenía estas capas (nada de forro polar ni 3 suéteres debajo). Creo que disimulé muy bien el frío que tenía jaja.

The reason why I was in Chicago was to renew my Venezuelan passport. Yes, I had to go down all the way down to Chicago for that (even though Miami has the largest Venezuelan population in the U.S...which is mainly against the current government). Why? Because the Venezuelan government closed the consulate in Miami after the U.S government expeled a Venezuelan diplomat. Oh politics...always making things harder.
But instead of looking at the glass half empty, we made a trip out of it...and we spent 4 days, 3 nights in The Windy City. This is the day I had my passport appointment in the early morning. I headed there, as nervous as I could be (since this wasn't my first try...long story short, I went to Puerto Rico first in November- and the people there were not helpful at all). Fortunately, everything went good and we were out of there in less than an hour!!
After my appointment, we headed to have breakfast at this place called Beatrix. It was a delicious..try the lemon packages and the quinoa cakes with eggs!. Then we headed to the famous bean...the Millennium Park looked beautiful all covered in snow. Then we tried walking by the river but it was SO SO cold. We would stop every 10 minutes and we would enter any store, coffee shop, hotel, or pharmacy just to warm up for a little. We also went to a place, to have early dinner, that you guys recommended on IG called Mercadito Kitchen. They had a "happy hour" and we had some amazing margaritas..and the chicken tacos were deliciously good.
About my look: I love this jacket. It's Asos Petite (so YAY for no long sleeves and no awkward length). I paired it with this cozy blanket scarf and a camel sweater dress underneath. I had the over-the-knee with thermal leggings and fleece tights. All about layers <3

La razón por la que estuve en Chicago fue para renovar mi pasaporte venezolano. Si, tuve que ir hasta allá para eso. Si no son venezolanos les explico un poco la situación. Miami tiene la población más grande de venezolanos en Estados Unidos (y el 99% de los venezolanos en Miami estamos en contra del gobierno venezolano actual). En el 2012 hubo un problema y el gobierno decidió cerrar el consulado de Miami- que yo digo que fue solo para hacernos las cosas más difíciles en todos los sentidos.
Pero en vez de ver el lado negativo, aprovechamos e hicimos de esto un viaje y pasamos varios días en la Ciudad de los Vientos. Este fue el día de la cita...y no tienen idea lo nerviosa que estaba (especialmente porque este no era mi primer intento...fui a Puerto Rico por 18 horas en noviembre...y la experiencia fue HORRIBLE!). Pero gracias a Dios esta vez salió todo muy bien, las personas de este consulado fueron muy amables (si son venezolanas y viven en Miami, les recomiendo este consulado...las citas salen mucho más rápidas que en New Orleans o Nueva York).
Después de la cita, comimos en Beatrix...riquísimo para desayunos y brunch. Si van, prueben las panquecas de limón y las tortillas de quinoa con huevo. De ahí nos fuimos a pasear por el Parque Millenium...donde esta el famoso "bean". Y seguimos caminando y caminando hasta llegar al río. Puede que sea cerca pero con el frío nos tardamos mucho (nos parabamos cada 10 minutos en cualquier tienda u hotel para calentarnos) Luego en la noche comimos en un sitio que nos recomendaron que se llama "Mercadillo Kitchen". Es de comida mexicana y tienen buenos especiales, nosotros llegamos en el happy hour y nos dieron 2 margaritas por el precio de una (y aparentemente tienen hasta un premio de lo buenas que son las margaritas).
Sobre mi look: esta chaqueta me encanta. Es Asos pero de la parte petite (me encanta cuando las marcas tienen la opción petite, así nos queda mejor a todas aquellas que nos faltan centímetros!). La combiné con esta bufanda calientita y un vestido con tela de suéter. También tenía mis botas a la rodilla con forro polar y medias pantys de lana debajo. Capas, capas y capas.

These pictures should have been on yesterday's post. However, the experience was really fun and I decided to make them two. Check out my look with a coat, gloves, and all those crazy layers.
We starting checking online about things to do that were indoors. This was the coldest day of all (at 5 degrees F). A venezuelan friend who used to live in Chicago, Soraya from Chic Flavours, recommended Skydeck...so we headed that way.
The tickets are usually $22 per person but we used an app called "Popular Pays"- which is great for bloggers and ifnluencers. You can get paid sigs but there is a section on local business where they offer food/drinks/attractions in exchange of a shout-out in social media. It's crazy how the social media world has changed everything...and they don't ask for a crazy amount of followers (500 for coffee, for example). Going back to my point, we did this at Skydeck...we knew either way we were going to post a picture at it so might as well take advantage of the app. **This is in no way sponsored, I just wanted to share it**
The building is called "Willis Tower" and it is the second tallest building in North America. You get to see the beautiful city from the 103th floor. They also added some cool glass boxes so you can step out and look down (definitely scary for those who are afraid of heights...there was a lady that went in crawling...it was hilariously cute!)

Estuvimos buscando cosas que hacer en Chicago que no fuesen al aire libre. Este fue el día más frío y estaba a unos -15 grados centígrados (¡énfasis en el signo de menos!). Una amiga venezolana que solía vivir en Chicago, Soraya de Chic Flavours, me recomendó que pasara por el Skydeck... y para allá fuimos.
Los tickets cuestan $22 por persona pero usamos una aplicación que se llama "Popular Pays", y en la parte de "local" te salen cosas a cambio por shout-outs en las redes sociales ( y tampoco piden muchos seguidores; por ejemplo, puedes pedir un café gratis o unas donas por 500 seguidores). ¡Que locura como las redes sociales han cambiado al mundo! Volviendo al punto, puedes ir al Skydeck con otra persona de manera gratuita si tienes más de 4 mil seguidores. Es una opción chevere ya que de todas todas íbamos a subir una foto de este lugar.
El edificio donde queda el Skydeck se llama "Willis Tower" y es el segundo más alto de Estados Unidos. Y puedes ver la hermosa ciudad desde el piso 103- aparte hay estos cubos de vidrio donde puedes tomar fotos (era muy cómico ver a la gente asustada al pararse ahí, yo personalmente no le tengo mucho miedo a las alturas!).

Oh Chicago! Chicago!
It wasn't the first time I've been in Chicago. I went twice in 2011- one for a marathon with Nike and then for a hispanic conference called Latism. Check out those posts, I look like a baby (and let's not even talk about what I was wearing). However, this time I went with Gabe and we love exploring the city.
We really loved it, it looked so beautiful with snow everywhere...and the lake was frozen!
We got there on Monday, we checked in, showered, and headed straight to have lunch. A couple of people recommended Giordanos where they are known for their Chicago-style pizzas. Honestly it was a good and bad decision. It was delicious but it was so big!! We didn't expect it! After that we headed to the Skydeck to see the city from the #103. I was going to add those pics on this post but they need their own posts (so stay tuned for that tomorrow).
About what I'm wearing, I realized I don't really own a lot of winter clothes (hey, I live in Miami, why would I). Everything I took to this 4 day trip was the same I wore in NYFW last year. The coat is from Desigual but it is obviously sold out (I linked to similar options below). I also realized that even though I love small bags, they are not for the winter. So this Coach swagger bag was perfect for this trip, that way I can add the gloves and everything inside (tell me I'm not the only one who does this!).

¡Chicago! ¡Chicago!!
Hace un par de año estuve en Chicago dos veces - una en octubre y otra en noviembre, y yo pensé que ese momento hacía frío...¡como me equivoqué! Pero es bueno cambiar de ambiente...pudimos disfrutar de la ciudad toda nevada y de usar 10 capas a la vez para poder explorar la ciudad.
Llegamos al mediodía el martes, hicimos check in, nos bañamos y fuimos directo a Giordanos- un sitio donde venden las pizzas estilo Chicago. Teníamos mucha hambre y pedimos una ensalada y una pizza mitad y mitad...fue una mala- pero buena decisión. Estaba riquísima pero comimos tanto ( ¡y eso que no nos comimos ni la mitad!!). De ahí seguimos para el Skydeck, donde puedes ver la ciudad desde el piso #103...pero eso viene en otro post porque tomamos unas fotos super cheveres (estén pendientes de eso mañana).
Sobre lo que estoy usando, me di cuenta que no tengo mucha ropa de invierno (obviamente por vivir en Miami). Me di cuenta que lo que me llevé a Chicago fue exactamente lo mismo que me llevé a Nueva York en febrero del año pasado. El abrigo es de Desigual, ya no lo venden pero les puse abajo varias opciones B&W similares. El climas fríos prefiero usar carteras grandes, como esta Coach, porque así puedo lanzar más cosas....en el frío siento que uno necesita más en la cartera (¿ soy la única?).

This is what I wore during my first night in Chicago- after sleeping the whole afternoon (I was very tired from the early flight), Flor arrived and we decided to "explore" the city. I was starving so we stopped at this restaurant/bar to eat these amazing hamburgers! This is like my "uniform" when I go to cold weather- a cozy long sleeve dress, coat, boots, warm leggings, and a scarf (but it wasn't enough, it was colder than I expected). Btw I think Flor is going to kill me because I posted a pic with her without her permission! Hope you are having an amazing & productive week! XOXO

Today I wanted to tell you a little more about why I was in Chicago this week and show you more pics about my experience. As you might now, I attended Latism 2011- which is a conference for hispanic bloggers. I was invited by Mary Kay as one of their blog ambassadors. On Thursday (the 1st day of the conference), I spent most of my day at the Mary Kay Glam suite where we had makeovers that included hair and makeup, we also drank mimosas and had breakfast&lunch. Each ambassador invited 2 bloggers to enjoy with them and the first 20 bloggers to go to the suite received a gift bag full of beauty products! You already "saw" this outfit, but with a coat (the black and white one). At first I wasn't wearing any lipstick, but I felt in love with this orange-red lipstick called "sunny citrus"- and I really like the pop of color it gave to my outfit.

Isn't it weird to see with a coat and boats!!?- as I've told you before, I was raised in Caracas, Venezuela (where it's around 75 degrees all year round); then I moved to Miami where it's hot even during the winter. That's why it's so hard for me to pack for cold weather- I only own a pair of boots!! I'm glad I got this coat last month from Missing Johnny- I love the print and how elegant it looks! I wanted it to be the focused of the outfit so I kept the rest black and very simple (but of course, I added a pop of color with the lipstick). This is what I wore to the first day of the Latism conference- but I only was able to attend one panel today because I spent most of the time at the Mary Kay suite (I'll tell you more about this tomorrow) I'm really enjoying the experience, I'm getting to know other bloggers from around the country - and my roommate is Flor from Flor de Maria Fashion. Also, I like that you learn so much about blogging and how to make your blog better! Have a great Friday and enjoy your weekend! XOXO
