My 2017 Fashion Resolution: Be Daring

Friday, December 30, 2016

Every year, around December 31st, I think of my next year’s resolutions. It always includes the classics: be healthier, exercise more, drink more water…and of course, professional goals. But I also always think of a Fashion/Beauty resolution- something that I didn't dare to do before and I want to do in the New Year.

I remember December 31st of … 2012 (maybe it was 2011), I wore red lipstick for the New Year’s Party…you probably have seen me wear red lipstick 1000 times here but I didn’t do it back then,  I loved red lipstick, I just thought it wasn’t “me”.

So what’s my fashion resolution for 2017? Be Daring.
I always love certain outfits, but then I look into the mirror and think that I might look ridiculous with it outside (in the real world). Sometimes I feel I’m a little basic with my outfits A  certain hater pointed it once and I agreed a little (because haters sometimes have a valid critique, it’s how we decided to take it and I took it positively). I thought: I absolutely love fashion, why am I so afraid to make mistakes? That’s exactly the fun part about fashion, looking back in 10 years and thinking how ridiculous we looked…but also how much fun we had.

I also have been sharing my outfits for more than 5 years, I have found my style but I want to keep it fresh…I want to keep it fun- not only for you guys, but FOR ME!

So if you are like me and want to go for daring styles this season, start with a caged pump. Going daring doesn't mean losing versatility, opt for a black pair like these from Guess (available on Macy's). This pair absolutely goes with everything: you can wear them to dress up your favorite jeans and can accompany you to any girl's night out at the club. They make a statement and are definitely a modern take on the cage trend. If you aren't sure about the cage trend, check out some of my favorite -versatile- black shoes that will surely make a statement.

For jeans, go for that style you think you could never pull off...I promise you can! It's all about the right attitude! Think paint splatter jeans,  patchwork jeans, jeans with fun patches...anything!

Get that statement coat you had been eyeing and wear it proudly. I got this leopard coat years ago and I was a little intimidated by it...not anymore, not in 2017!

Finally, don't be afraid to accessorize: add a trendy belt, a velvet choker, a hat (sometimes less isn't more)...it's the best way to update a basic white tee.

What's your fashion resolution for 2017? Let's get out of our comfort zones!

Iceskating at the Rockefeller Center /// WINTER FASHION

Friday, December 23, 2016

I don't remember the last time I ice-skated - My mom says it was in 2005 and before that 1996...so let's say, it is tradition to do it every approximately 10 years. I had so SO SO SO much fun. When we were doing the line (which was long, but I guess it could have been worse), I saw so many people falling and falling. It probably had to do that the ice wasn't flat. But I was definitely scared, I didn't want to end with a broken arm...and I can be a little clumsy. But my body is more agile than I give it credit. I did gymnastics for 10 years, and I was feeling like a pro within minutes (at least I was going faster than 80% of the people).

Casual Denim during the Miami Holidays…with DENIZEN® from Levi’s® jeans

Tuesday, December 20, 2016

When I was in Fashion School, during a Fashion History class we had to write a short essay on the item we thought would define our generation (like the draped dresses did for the Romans). I instantly wrote down jeans.

Jeans are everyone’s staple from day to night, from casual to dressy,  from Spring to the Holidays. So today I’m partnering with one of my favorite denim brands DENIZEN® from Levi’s® jeans to show you how to stay stylish and comfortable during the busy Holiday season.

Here I’m wearing the Modern Skinny jeans (I love that they come in short and long sizes too!! I’m petite and proud; but the less I have to go to the tailor, the better). Because Miami has not received the “It’s Christmas” memo and it’s still 85 degrees, I paired them  with an off-the-shoulder top, a bandana, and a hat. I wore this look with sneakers to run around the city for last-minute Holiday errands, and then I added the booties for dinner with the hubs. The best part about these jeans is that they are super soft and stretchy, but they still keep their shape all day no matter how active I am.

Gabe is wearing the 232Slim Straight Fit jeans in this fun nude color- definitely edgier than the classic washes but still extremely versatile- and the whole look is very fashionable but full of basics that all of our guys have (or should have).

Sporty Plaid in CENTRAL PARK

Sunday, December 18, 2016

Mad for plaid ♥️♥️ When I got this statement plaid coat a few years ago, I never thought I would wear it as much as I have...I have to update the remix for it but if you search on the blog plaid coat, you can see the other 4 ways I've worn it.

This time I went for a sporty vibe with a funky hat and my new favorite sneakers.

This day was super fun, we met with some Dominican friends and he headed to have some Dominican food in Queens and then we spent the whole day with them. You can check their blog @GlamDapper.

XOXO

BESOS!

Sabor a Casa…with Coca Cola

Friday, December 16, 2016

Living away from where I was born and raised is extremely hard…especially during the Holiday season.  This is the second Christmas I’m going to spend away from my family, so I need to find little ways to feel at home. And I did… I felt at home 2,130 miles away from it. Eating my hallaca, with a CocaCola …just like when I was a kid!

The first thing I did was decorate my house. This year I put garlands around the house, Christmas lights, a small tree, stockings…so much fun! But my husband and I decided to go to NYC for a little over a week. Little did I know that I was going to get even more homesick in New York (thousands of miles away from Caracas, where I grew up). Yes, it had to do with the gorgeous Holiday decorations, the Christmas music in every corner, the tree at the Rockefeller center.

December 1st at my house marked the day of “ The hallaca season” (traditional Venezuelan food during the Holidays- regularly paired with “chicken salad” and “pan de jamón”)- not only making them but also trying the ones friends and family make. Nobody says this out lout but internally we all judge to see whose hallacas was better…in bias, my mom’s hallacas are simply the most delicious ever.

Knowing I especially missed “el sabor casa”, as soon as my husband saw me all sentimental, he suggested we should go to our favorite Venezuelan restaurant in NYC, called Caracas Arepa Bar… As a kid, my hallaca was always paired with Coca-Cola- which was always present in our family get-togethers and Holiday meals.

The traditional Holiday dish from Venezuela takes a little to prepare (the hallacas are prepared in hundreds beforehand, but they have to be boiled before serving). And while I waited and sipped my Coca-Cola, I was nervous. Would it meet my expectations? Would it taste like home? This lady over here is picky…and I have to say I was not disappointed! The whole meal was delicious. I don’t know if it was the final touch of the Coca-Cola childhood memories, the Venezuelan flag across the table, and the yummy flavour…but I felt at home….2130 miles away from it.

Quality and Versatility in Skincare...with VICHY

Tuesday, December 13, 2016

When I’m shopping for clothes I always think “how many ways can I wear this item”. If the answer is less than 3, that item stays in the store or on my online shopping cart.
I always think of a mix of quality and versatility…but what about in the beauty department?

I’ve seen friends who use many (way too MANY) products when it comes to their skincare routine. Your daily routine should be simple and efficient; the products you use should have as many benefits and as many quality ingredients as possible.

One of my favorite things about being a blogger is that I get to try different products; and I love partnering with brands that I can’t stop raving about their products. The past month, I’ve been using these 3 fantastic products from VICHY that make my skincare routine not only efficient but my skin is feels incredible.

If you are not familiar with the brand, VICHY is the #1 anti-aging brand in European pharmacies…and the reason is simple: high quality products (that are Paraben free and allergy tested) + great price point. They are seen as being staple in French skincare regimen and designed and proven to maximize skin health, hydrate, nourish, and defend skin against aging. And like that wasn’t all, the core of every VICHY product formula is pure mineralizing thermal water from the French Volcanos…how cool is that!?

STEP 1: CLEANSE: PURETE THERMALE MICELLAR SOLUTION ($14.50)

My number one beauty rule is never, ever, going to sleep without makeup on.  No matter how tired I am or how late it is. So just like my shopping rule, I was instantly drawn to anything that says 3-in-1. Using a cotton pad in sweeping motions, it removes impurities, soothes irritation, and removes face and eye makeup…all in one!  Besides the Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water from the French Volcanoes, it has vitamin B5 and moisturizing glycerin…making it safe for sensitive skin and contact lens wearers.

STEP 2: PREP: MINERALIZING THERMAL SPA WATER ($14)

I was super excited to try this mist, it was one of those products that you cannot help but wonder how they work…and I was impressed!

The Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water mist contains 15 essential minerals to strengthen and protect skin against internal and external aggressors like pollution, stress and fatigue.

This mist is the perfect second step for your morning and night routine; but you can use it during the day to refresh your skin and protect against aggressors like pollution and even fatigue.  Also, it can be used to set your makeup (or make it dewy after a long day), and thin out heavier moisturizers.

STEP 3: HYDRATE: AQUALIA RANGE

The last step is my favorite: HYDRATION!
My skin is very dry- even in hot humid Miami weather; so I’m all about keeping it hydrated.
I’m loving how fresh and silky my skin feels when using VICHY Aqualia Range Thermal Dynamic Hydration Rich Cream- one of the best hydrating moisturizers out there. It is infused with the highest concentration of Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water and a unique 48 hr. Dynamic Hydration technology to lock water in evenly throughout the face.

(If you skin type is more on the oily/combo side: I recommend Aquaria Thermal Mineral Water Gel)

SEE, this is what I’m talking…look for amazing products that you can use multiple ways and/or have different benefits.

3 WAYS TO WEAR OVER-THE-KNEE BOOTS...under $100

Monday, December 12, 2016

When I go shopping I have three rules:
  • Only buy if you can think of at least three different ways to wear that item.
  • Don’t pay attention to sizes.
  • TRY IT ON- things look different (and sometimes way better) when you try them on.

Today I’m partnering with Style&Co to show you must-have pieces for this season- but I’m focusing on one piece that it’s an absolute must-have for the colder months: over the knee boots. These types of boots go with everything: with jeans, leggings, skirts, sweater dresses..anything- and they are super sexy too! Don’t be afraid to spend a little more on timeless pieces like these boots...you are going to wear them with absolutely everything in your wardrobe during the colder months.

Look #1
For the first look, I paired the boots with a tunic sweater. I went for a bigger size to make sure the tunic would look like a short dress on my petite frame. I absolutely love the lace up detail on this tunic, and it would look absolutely amazing underneath a coat and with fleece tights for even colder months.

Look #2
This second look is exactly what I was telling you on my rule of never looking at the sizes.  This tunic plaid dress fit me like a top in my size BUT in a Large, it fit me like a trendy dress (that hey, could still be worn with leggings. For that cool girl vibe, I added a camel moto jacket. I absolutely love this combo together but hese two pieces are also extremely versatile with anything in your closet.

Look #3

For the third look, I’m showing you how these boots can go from trendy to comfy by just pairing it with cozy pieces.  This look works for running errands, Holiday shopping, baking cookies at your in-laws…even for a walk in the park or a casual brunch with a friend.  I absolutely love burgundy for the cooler months, and these burgundy leggings are comfy and cute! I really like the cut-out detail on the simple top. But the real final touch of this look is the striped duster..and it is under $35!!

What was your favorite look? Let me know in the comments!

Last Days of Fall in Central Park

Saturday, December 10, 2016

For our anniversary, we headed to our favorite city in the U.S: NEW YORK! We got there in the afternoon and we rushed to Central Park to see the lovely fall colors. We were there just in time, the following days were raining non-stop- which meant many of the last leaves fell.

My look was most about comfort than anything else! Also, check out our first travel video log (v-log lol).

Enjoy the pictures! I'm obsessed with the park during this time of the year!

BESOS

Magical Fall in Central Park /// COZY & BUNDLED

Friday, December 9, 2016

I dream of living in New York, a few blocks from Central Park. I dream of seeing it bloom during the Spring, of planning a summer picnic under a tree, seeing the leafs fall in Fall, and then all white in Winter. I dream of walking Chiki and letting him play with the dozens of dogs you see.

One day New York, one day...
