At first, I wasn't sure about coming to New York Fashion Week …mainly because of the weather. This Caribbean girl is not used to freezing temperatures. However, I got the fun opportunity to work with Sperry and Chictopia during this fashionable week. They invited me to attend Rubin and Chapel's show at the Standard Hotel….the view was breathtaking (plus the models were against the view…creating the perfect backdrop). The place was packing with photographers and celebrities (even the Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, Morgan Steward, was one of the models). When the models were getting ready, they were hanging out in Sperry shoes- I joined them by wearing a the gold metallic pair, it has a modern twist on the classic boat shoe. It was also so much fun seen Sperry shoes on the runway; they really gave the looks some everyday comfort and versatility.
As far as the outfit for the show, I wore my new favorite black ankle booties from Sperry you girls are going to see them so often on the blog. They have a quilted and suede detail on the back of the shoe and they are leather on the front …PLUS they are extremely comfy! I was dying to wear this plaid coat so I just paired it with some gray jea
ns and a black scarf!

Para mi look…primero que nada, escogà estas botitas negras de Sperry- que de una me disculpo porque van a salir a cada rato en el blog. Tienen un detalle estilo "alcohado"en gamuza en la parte de atrás y cuero por delante….aparte son comodÃsimos. I can’t believe this is our 8th Valentine’s Day together!
Gabe and I started dating on December 2006; at the time I had just moved to Miami to go to college and I had a long-distance boyfriend…Gabe? Well Gabe was just having fun and falling in love with a different girl every other week. On my first semester in college, all my friends were living at the dorms…so I was basically living at the dorms too. We became best friends rather quickly and we were having the best time together….I don’t know when on how, that friendship became a crush. We would stay up talking on MSN (yes, people still talked on MSN …feels like centuries ago) and I would say good-bye and log out just to see if he would log out too (which meant he was only online to talk with me…which of course he did). Then I realized those butterflies for Gabe definitely meant my long-distance thing was not working out (I would have been fooling myself if I hadn't broken up with him). I didn’t even mention anything to Gabe because I didn’t want to look like “hey I’m single now…” but he told me how he felt about me as soon as he found out I broke with my then-boyfriend.
Meeting him felt like "destiny", we are from different countries…we both almost didn't move to Miami and almost didn't study at that university. The odds were minimum…but when you meet the right person, you know it.

A couple of months later; on our first Valentine’s Day together, we promise each other to forget about the Vday clichés. If he wanted to bring me flowers on a random Tuesday, he should. If we felt like dressing up and head to a fancy restaurant in the middle on July…totally okay! And most importantly: if we wanted to stay in during February 14th and just hang out in our PJs, it worked too!
We should celebrate LOVE all day every day. It doesn’t matter if it’s pampering yourself with a simple mani, hanging out with your girlfriends, or going to a surprise location with your significant other! Inspired by the new Chloe fragrance, Love Story, Gabe and I headed for a fancy walk at the park with Chiki. He surprised me with flowers and cupcakes. I absolutely love perfumes and how each scent reminds me of a time in my life. Love Story is inspired by romance; even the padlock bottle design was inspired by the Pont des Arts, the famous love bridge in Paris. Love Story will now remind me forever to my first months as a newlywed and how the butterflies I felt in 2006 are still here and are not going anywhere.

¡No puedo creer que este es el octavo DÃa de Los Enamorados que Gabo y yo pasamos juntos!
Gabo y yo empezamos a salir en diciembre del 2006; ese año me mude a Miami para ir a la universidad y tenÃa un novio venezolano a distancia…Gabo? Gabo andaba de enamoradizo con una chica diferente cada semana. Ese primer semestre, todos mis amigos vivÃan en los dormitorios de la universidad- asà que se podrán imaginar, yo también me la pasaba ahÃ. En poco tiempo nos convertimos en mejores amigos…y no se ni en que momento ni como pero de la nada me empezó a gustar. Nos quedábamos hablando hasta la madrugada por MSN (si, con eso se me cae la cédula…antes de Snapchat y todas estas cosas, uno hablaba por MSN). Yo me desconectaba para ver si el se desconectaba - lo que significaba que el estaba conectado solo para hablar conmigo! Obviamente me di cuenta que estas maripositas significaban que mi relación de lejos no estaba funcionando… y terminamos (por que hubiese estado engañándome a mi misma en una relación que no funcionaba). Yo ni quise decirle nada a Gabo para no sonar toda "holaaaa terminé con mi novio"…pero apenas Gabo se enteró, se me declaro y me dijo como se sentÃa.
Para mi concer a Gabo fue como "Serendipity". Ninguno originalmente iba a vivir en Miami…o estudiar en la universidad que nos conocimos. Fue mucha casualidad como nos conocimos y siento cuando uno conoce "al que es" , tu corazoncito lo sabe! <3

Un par de meses después fue nuestro primer DÃa de los Enamorados juntos; ese dÃa prometimos que San ValentÃn era todos los dÃas….que si a el le provoca comprarme flores un martes, que lo haga…si nos querÃamos arreglar e ir a un restaurante lindo en pleno julio, también. Pero lo más importante es que si un 14 de febrero no queremos hacer nada…no importa!

La inspiración de Love Story es el romance- hasta el diseño de la botella fue basado en el famoso puente del amor de ParÃs. Este look lo utilicé la semana pasada para ir a cenar con unos amigos…que por cierto es una pareja de amigos que se conoció en nuestra boda <3 la cursi que hay que mi se emocionó tanto al verlos juntos. Para ir a cenar quise utilizar este top cortito; generalmente lo hubiese utilizado con una falda negra pero agregar un parte de abajo blanca me pareció más divertido. I got there a little early to pick my look; I went for a denim on denim look (which it's a fun combo I always wear) but I added a trench-coat (the perfect touch for our Miami winters). El jueves pasado tuve la oportunidad de ser la anfitriona de un evento de GAP en Lincoln Road.
Ese dÃa tuve que llegar temprano al evento para escoger mi look; opté por un denim + denim (que he usado muchas veces porque me encanta) pero le agregué una gabardina clásica (el toque perfecto para estas noches "invernales" de Miami). Durante el evento me sorprendieron un par de amigas bloggers que me encantó ver!

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching!
I got a couple of requests of looks for this romantic day…but it really depends on your plans (leave a comment below on your plans and I can do a couple of looks for that!). I actually wore this for a dinner with Gabe and his little sister but I feel like it's a cute look for a casual Valentine's Day at the movie theater.
I'm wearing the comfiest jeans I own (plus they are super flattering and they don't stretch); the sweater is perfect for the cold movie theater (but it is still inviting enough for your crush/bf/husband so he can hug you during the whole movie). I don't necessarily love extremely corny looks, but a touch of burgundy is great for this special day- I added this gorgeous fringe bag from Tous. Finally to continue the "Valentine's" theme, I added two little bracelets from Tous that say "love" (which are a great gift!! leave a tab open on your phone or computer so he knows you want it wink wink) . I love dark lipsticks; but for this day, make sure the lipstick doesn't stain…you definitely want to be 100% kiss friendly!

¡El dÃa de San ValentÃn se acerca!!
Me han pedido que les muestre looks para San ValentÃn…pero es que todo depende de lo que tengan planeado. Aunque yo usé este look en un domingo familiar, este look me parece perfecto para ir al cine. Estos jeans son los jeans más cómodos que tengo (perfectos para estar sentada un rato en el cine); el suéter te protege del frÃo de lo helado que son los cines…pero no lo suficiente como para que tu chico no te abrase durante la pelÃcula! Para darle un toque romántico, agregué esta cartera de TOUS color vino y unas pulseritas que dicen "love" (también de Tous- y me parecen un regalo lindÃsimo que pueden dar a sus amigas y seres queridos). A mi me encantan las pinturas de labios oscuras, pero para este dÃa especial es mejor un color natural o un labial que no manche. ¿Que planes tienen para El DÃa de los Enamorados?¡Les mando un abrazote!!
I'm a 90s kid…I love 90s fashion- I guess it's a way of being reminiscent of our childhood. I have two older brothers who were teens in the 90s and I wanted to dress like their friends and like the girls on the shows they watched or like the girls on the bands they listened to.
Having magic powers was one of those things I wished for every single day. My favorite show was (which I still watch on Hulu) Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Also, I would watch "The Craft" on TV every time it was on…a this movie was exactly the inspiration behind this look- yeap because of the baby doll dress, the choker, the knee socks, the dark lips…everything screams The Craft <3

Los 90s me recuerdan a mi niñez. Siempre me ha encantado la moda de los 90s- tal vez porque me pongo sentimental recordando lo simple que era todo (¡cuando éramos felices y no lo sabÃamos). Yo tengo dos hermanos mucho mayores que eran adolescentes en los noventas; y eso hizo que me creyera grande desde pequeñita. QuerÃa ponerme lo que sus amigas usaban, escuchar la música que ellos oÃan, ver los shows de Televisión que ellos veÃa.
De chiquita soñaba con despertarme un dÃa y poder hacer magia. Mi show de televisión favorito era (y que todavÃa me encanta porque lo veo en Hulu) Sabrina La Bruja Adolescente. También me encantaba ver "Jovenes y Brujas"…que aparte me enseño que todo lo que uno hace en la vida, sea magia o no /sea bueno o malo, se devuelve 3 veces (karma!). Este look definitivamente está inspirado en esta pelÃcula- me imagino a cualquiera de los personajes principales utilizando este look. Espero que les haya gustado! BESOS>

THE ENGAGEMENT RING:
Is it me or there must be someone giving out engagement rings? My Facebook is full of friends getting engaged and married…there's is something in the water- or maybe we just hit that age.
In theory we don't have a saying when it comes to picking out the engagement ring. Unless you are very direct and you want to go with your boyfriend to pick it up (nothing against that if that's your personality). We must find a way to indirectly tell them what we like… I could never return a ring (the poor guy would feel terrible!). Gabe and I had talked about getting married…which was a conversation meant to happen when you have been together for 7 years!! I absolutely loved my ring, it was exactly how I wanted it.
Then it was funny to hear Gabe's quest to find it; how he was in shock when they tried to make him make monthly payments (hello, a ring should not be a mortgage!). You should never make your boyfriend feel like he HAS to get you a Cartier ring. I believe that when you are getting engaged with the right person, how much the ring costs doesn't matter.

EL ANILLO DE COMPROMISO:
¿Son ideas mÃas o andan regalando anillos de compromiso? Mi Facebook está lleno amigas comprometiendose …definitivamente hay algo en el agua- ¿o será que estamos en edad de boda?
El tema del anillo puede ser el más complicado ya que nadie quiere andar lanzándole indirectas al novio (asustándolo en el proceso)… y ni pensar en devolver el anillo porque no te gustó o no era como siempre soñaste. Si han hablado de casarse…¿por que no mostrarle un par de modelos que te gusten? Gabo y yo por supuesto que habÃamos hablado del tema (¡era de esperarse después de 7 años juntos!) y mi anillo fue lo que querÃa y más. Considero que cuando estás con la persona indicada, no importa si el anillo es de Cartier o si es un anillo de chupeta. Gabo me cuenta que buscando el anillo se encontró con tiendas donde podÃas pedir un préstamo (como si estuvieras comprando un carro)… y esa no es la idea- nadie quiere empezar una nueva etapa endeudado! Lo importante es que tu chico se sienta cómodo con su presupuesto y que tu no lo presiones a gastar más de lo puede…lo que importa es el compromiso, no el tamaño del diamante <3
THE WEDDING BANDS:
My mom was a little surprise that we didn't get matching rings. However, I actually like this American tradition of adding a band to your engagement ring. HELLO, I love my engagement ring and I couldn't imagine putting it in a box forever. We might change to traditional bands one day- I have cute memories when I was little I used to play with my parent's wedding bands and I loved seeing their names and the date they got married.
Gabe wanted a simple silver band…he is not a fond of yellow gold. Thankfully, nowadays there is such a great variety of rings for him too.

LOS ANILLOS DE CASADOS:
En Estados Unidos, la tradición es agregarle otro anillo al de compromiso al momento de casarse…en vez de comprar otro totalmente distinto. Admito que esta tradición me gustaba más; me encanta mi anillo de compromiso y no querÃa tener que meterlo en una cajita después de casada. Tal vez eventualmente cambiemos de anillo; tengo recuerdos muy lindos de agarrar los anillos de casados de mis papás, y nada como ver el nombre del otro y la fecha en que se casaron.
Gabo escogió un anillo sencillo plateado..porque no le gusta el oro amarillo. Pero eso es decisión de cada quien. Hoy en dÃa hay mucha variedad en cuanto a estilos para ellos también.
THE EARRINGS AND THE BRACELET:
I found my earrings in a store very close to Rosa Clará on Miracle MIle (the street I told you that has tons of wedding stores in Miami). I didn't want earrings that would overwhelm the dress; like you have seen, my dress had a high neckline and it was full of embellishments. These were the perfect size and the perfect touch of sparkle. Then, my mom remembered she had a bracelet that went perfectly with the earrings. It is not pictured above because it was my "something borrowed" and my mom brought it to me after the photographer had taken the pictures.
THE HAIRPIN:
I wanted to give a little sparkle to my hairstyle too; talking with a dear friend (and accessory designer), she offered to gift me one. She was one of the few people that saw my wedding dress before the actual wedding; she made it thinking about the dress and it was perfect! Check out more of her work on Instagram as @RoxLynch

LOS ARETES Y LA PULSERA
Los aretes los compré con mi mama en una tienda en la Miracle Mile (la calle que les conté en Miami que esta llena de tiendas de boda). Como mi vestido tenÃa el cuello alto y estaba lleno de pedrerÃa, no querÃa unos aretes muy largos…estos me parecieron perfectos! Mi mamá tenÃa una pulsera delicada y lindÃsima que iba perfecta con mis accesorios, y la llevo de Venezuela- fue mi "algo prestado".
EL BROCHE:
Para decorar mi peinado, una amiga hermosa (diseñadora de accesorios), me hizo este pin para el cabello. Ella fue la única, aparte de mi mamá y damas, que vieron el vestido antes de la boda. THE VEIL:
As I have already shared, I originally didn't want any veil. Then I saw a picture of a wedding where the bride was wearing a LONG veil (cathedral style) and it really gave the look a WOW factor. My dress was relatively simple and I love the touch it gave the veil I chose from Rosa Clará (it also had a tiny delicate beaded detail on the edges)

EL VELO:
Como les conté, al principio no querÃa ni velo. Luego vi una foto donde un velo largo (estilo catedral) le daba un toque WOW durante la ceremonia. Al decidirme volvà a ir a Rosa Clará, y escogà este con un detalle bordado en el borde que se parecÃa mucho al vestio.
Tips al escoger el velo:
- Tu velo debe ser del mismo color del vestido. Es preferible que si no es del color exacto, que sea un poco más clara…nunca más oscuro.
- Los velos largos son más favorecedores y le dan un toque formal a la boda.

THE SHOES:
I have to admit that choosing the perfect pair of shoes gave me more than one headache. I wanted a pair that I could wear again…but I wanted them white and bridal-ish without looking corny or tacky (most of them looked terribly tacky, I swear). Then the ones I liked where too expensive- I was willing to pay a little extra for a good pair but not that much.
My favorite shoes always were Badgley & Mischka; this brand has an amazing variety of wedding shoes (from wedges to flats, from pumps to peep toes, etc). The price point was still high- but as high as a $2000 pair of Valentinos.
Now that I think about it, I should have chosen a wedge instead of a regular heel. When we met with the wedding coordinator in Dominican Republic, she told me I needed to walk on the actual sand (I had already purchase a wooden platform for the ceremony…but to get there I still ended to step on sand). I started to freak out a little but we were able to fix it by adding an L-shaped platform. You all know I'm petite, and I was relying on those extra inches..plus I didn't want to trip! At the end of the day, I had to take my shoes off for the pictures on the sand.
I also refused to take my shoes off until the end of the night…which was a bad idea, I had blister in every single toe! But it was all worth it <3
Tips when choosing your wedding shoes:
- Even if you are petite like me, choose a comfortable height for you. If you are not used to wearing 5 inch heels, your wedding is not the day to start.
- Even if you are wearing a long dress, have a pair of shoes that make you feel like a princess…we all know that shoes can make us feel completely different.
- BREAK THEM IN! Wear them at home (preferably on a carpet) and get used to them while breaking them in.
- Get them before your last fitting; that way you can make sure that the length of the dress is PERFECT!
- Take into consideration the location. Don't be like me and if you are getting married on the beach or in a garden, get a wedge or a flat shoe!

LOS ZAPATOS:
Admito que encontrar el par perfecto me dió más de un dolor de cabeza. QuerÃa un par que pudiese volver a usar…pero igual querÃa que fuesen blancos. También estaba dispuesta a pagar un poquito más en un buen par. Buscando y buscando me topé con la marca Badgley & Mischka- me parece que tienen la mayor variedad de zapatos de novia y todos los modelos son espectaculares. Hay para todos los gustos.
Pensándolo ahora, tal vez hubiese escogido unos zapatos con cuña en vez de tacón regular. Al reunirme con la wedding planner en Punta Cana me dijo que la boda en la playa era en la arena. Casi me da algo, el vestido estaba del largo adecuado CON los zapatos… y siendo sincera, con mi tamaño petite: me gusta la idea de ser 10 cm más alta. Pudimos solucionarlo extendiendo la plataforma de madera durante la ceremonia pero igual me los tuve que quitar para las fotos en la arena.
No me quise quitar los zapatos hasta las 12pm…lo cual fue una mala idea. No querÃa quitarme los zapatos en la fiesta… y bailé hasta más no poder (se imaginarán que pasó, terminé hasta sangrando de todos los callitos…pero valió la pena!!)
Tips al escoger los zapatos:
- Por muy chiquitica que seas, como yo, escoge un tacón con el que te sientas cómoda. Si no estas acostumbrada a usar tacones de 15 cm, no empieces el dÃa de tu boda.
- Escoge unos zapatos que te hagan sentir espectacular; asà los tapes con un vestido largo.
- Usalos en tu casa (mejor aún si tienes alfombra) para que te vayas acostumbrado y que no estén tan duros el dÃa de la boda.
- Cómpralos antes de agarrarle ruedo a tu vestido; esto es importantÃsimo para que tu vestido te quedé perfecto.
- Toma en cuenta donde va a ser la boda; no hagas como yo…si es en un jardÃn y en la playa, es mejor que uses unos de cuña/plataforma o bajitos.
I feel like my style has been shifting between very feminine/ladylike (so ladylike that it can look a little retro, like these pics) and edgy (just wait for a post this week that is straight out from the grungy 90s). I absolutely loved this pink skirt as soon as I saw it DailyLook. I'm always drawn to pink items and then I have trouble wearing it ( I don't want it to look to Barbie-ish). I feel like pinks look too harsh with all black looks…I always tend to pair it with B&W, all white, or even blue. So I went for a polka dotted top and some cap toe pumps (which I DIY them a while back).
So here's a little story on why Chiki is in these pics ( I love having him but…); he scored his first modeling gig with a magazine in Miami…well, more like a prop in a fashion editorial but STILL #proudmom. Reason why we were like "Chiki, you have to practice". He did amazingly at the shoot; personally I thought he was anxious and jumping around…but they got the shot and he looks super cute! Stay tune, the issue comes out in March and I will be sharing it! XOXO

Siento que mi estilo ultimamente ha estado entre súper ladylike (tirando a retro) y edgy (ya verán que uno de los post que viene es mega noventoso grunge). Esta falda "midi" me encantó pero tengo un problema con las piezas rosadas. Este color me llama mucho la atención al momento de comprar…pero luego al ponérmelo, me cuesta un poco combinarlo ya que no quiero que se vea muy Barbie…tampoco me gusta como queda con un look todo negro, me parece que el contraste es muy fuerte. Por eso en esta ocasión quise combinarla con una camisa de lunares y piezas b&W.
Les cuento que Chiki estuvo modelando para una revista de Miami- asà que lo pusimos a practicar el dÃa antes conmigo. Estaba un poco nerviosa porque el, aunque es tranquilito, no se queda quieto cuando se trata de fotos….¡pero lo hizo muy bien! Las fotos salen en marzo asà que luego les contaré más. BESOS!
