Make your Beauty Look Last in Hot & Humid Weather

Saturday, April 23, 2016

I live in HOT, HUMID Miami.  Yes, we have ridiculous 80º+  temperatures most of the year!
And, when friends visit me in Miami, their first question is “HOW DO YOU DO IT?”

They complain about their makeup melting or their hair getting bigger and frizzier by the minute….and I mean, I totally get them- it has happened to me. However, over the years (almost 10 years living in Miami), I’ve learned a few beauty tricks here and there to make my beauty last in even the hottest spring day.

Beauty Tricks to Make Your Look Last in Hot & Humid Weather:

1. Hot & humid means showing a lot of skin…and taking care of your skin starts in the shower. I’ve been using the Olay Fresh Outlast Energizing Lime & White Tea Body Wash. It works with your skin’s natural pH and won’t dry it out. The scent is amazing and it lasts all day. It feels so cooling and refreshing, preparing you for the humidity!

2. Minimize your skincare routine by trying to apply the least amount of skincare products- especially if you sweat a lot and/or have oily skin. Go for a moisturizer with SPF instead of wearing a serum, a moisturizer, AND sunscreen (TIP: save the serum and the heavy cream for the nightime). Before applying makeup, make sure you start with clean skin and just a thin layer of moisturizer.

3. Go for a light and creamy foundation and concealer instead of a powder option. Tinted moisturizer with SPF would be a great option too.  If you want full coverage in humid weather, go for a liquid matte foundation. Remember, cream based products adhere to your skin, while powder just sits on top of it.

4. You guessed it…waterproof mascara and eyeliner are the way to go to avoid smudging or sliding. Some great options, include: COVERGIRL Plumpify BlastPro by LashBlast Waterproof mascara (hello long, long lashes) and the COVERGIRL truNAKED WaterProof Eyeliner Duo. I applied two coats of mascara and the eyeliner on the top and bottom eyelash line; the formula is very creamy.

5. Heavy lipsticks feel out of place, so go for a tinted lip balm!! The COVERGIRL Colorlicious Oh Sugar! leaves lips healthy and soft because of the grapeseed oil, avocado butter, and Vitamins C &E in it. And, it comes in 10 shades. Don’t be afraid to try a fun color for Spring/Summer 2016!! Here I am wearing the shade “Soda 7,” but I want to get a few more shades!

6. Blot, don’t powder. I know that when feeling oily, we all add powder. But adding layers and layers and layers of powder will make you look cakey and still oily. Instead, use blotting papers. These are great because they absorb the shine without messing with your makeup.

7. When it comes to hair….I know the feeling. You get ready, hair looks amazing, you step out the door, five minutes pass by, and HELLO SIMBA. So what’s the secret? When you curl or straighten, wait 5 minutes before applying any product. Let the curl cool down; and then you can apply hairspray. I like the Pantene Pro-V Airspray; it delivers a flexible hold, which means no stiffness or stickiness (nothing ruins a perfect curl than a stiff curl).

While my friends were in town, I put on a very Miami-look with this flowy red midi dress (that kinda resembles the dancing emoji!) and we headed to a street called Española Way (also appropriate for my dancing emoji look!). We ended up walking a lot on Lincoln Road…and I have to say my look lasted very well thanks to these fool-proof tips!

Hope you found these tips helpful!

  4. Excelentes recomendaciones!

  8. Hi Daniela, I lived in Miami for 20 years, now I live in LA and the weather could not be more different. Now I have to worry about the "non humid" weather even though I live by the Ocean. My problems now are all about dry weather, which means dry skin and scalp. xoRossana www.RossanaVanoni.com
